New York City Salt Ban Proposed

The timing on this is uncanny (St. Patrick’s Day is right around the corner), but a bill has been introduced in the New York Legislature to ban the use of salt in preparation of food in New York City restaurants.

The bill, proposed by Assemblyman Felix Ortiz (D-Brooklyn), would fine restaurants $1000 for using salt in the preparation of food.  This applies regardless of where the food is to be consumed (in the restaurant or take out).

I couldn’t imagine a trip to New York City without a stop in a local deli for a reuben. How could anyone propose such an obsurd bill in a city full of fine quisine? Yet another sad sign of how personal responsibility no longer exists.
