McCain Campaign Workers Attacked With Mace

Yet another dose of stupidity to report today. This time from Galax, VA. According to the Galax Gazette, Daniel Cason Meinecke, 29, and Cara Annis Hindman, 26, entered the Republican headquarters in Galax and asked for Obama yard signs.  When Galax Republican Chairman Mike Stevens told them to go up the street to the Democrat headquarters, the couple suggested that the Republican party was stealing signs and storing them at the headquarters.

The situation escalated and Mr. Meinecke started using some choice words, which prompted Mr. Stevens to ask him to leave.  Long story short, Stevens escorted the couple out and Ms. Hindman sprayed him and another volunteer with mace.  She then sprayed mace inside the headquarters.  Both Meinecke and Hindman are under arrest.

We continue to further divide America with this sort of thing.  It’s absolutely stupid!

Obama’s Ross Perot Strategy

Anyone who was around for 1992 is sure to remember Ross Perot.  If not, you might remember Dana Carvey doing Ross Perot impersonations on SNL.  The reason I bring Ross Perot up is that he was the last candidate to buy primetime slots on the major networks for an infomercial.  He brought his pointer and his cardboard graphs and in his trademark voice explained why he was the best candidate for America.  I have to admit, he was a bit hypnotic in a creepy sort of way.  Regardless, Perot’s shows even outperformed sitcoms. For your nostalgia here’s a bit of one of his shows:

It will be interesting to see how Obama’s show ratings turn out.  My instinct tells me that Perot’s novelty level (3rd party candidate and unorthodox for a politician) is what drew his ratings.  At this point in the election, I’d expect mostly diehard Obama supporters and truly undecided will be the viewers.  Zogby shows about 6% of voters are still undecided, but also shows Obama with a large lead.  I’m not sure how much Obama has to gain with the TV special, but time will tell.  Many seem to be sick of hearing from the politicians, given the constant political advertising that we are innundated with lately.

SNL had to get in on the act and for those that missed it, here is the spoof:

Skinheads Arrested in Obama Assassination Plot

According to The Smoking Gun, two skinheads were arrested for plotting a killing spree.  Apparently, Daniel Cowart, 20 and Paul Schlesselman, 18, are white supremacists.  They planned to target a mostly African-American school, then go state to state in an effort to rob and kill people.  The final act was to be an assassination attempt on Obama consisting of driving their vehicle towards Obama while firing at him out of the windows.

To top things off, they were planning on wearing white tuxedoes and top hats.  Today must be the day of hatred and idiocy since it seems to be the main things I’m finding to post about today.  Thankfully, ATF has these two in custody under three federal felony charges.

Vandals Attack McCain Supporters’ Homes in Northern VA

Just further proof that partisan politics has gotten way out of hand…  Redstate.com has posted some photos of a vandal attack on the homes of McCain supporters in Northern Virginia.  It’s a shame that one cannot express their political views without risk to their property or even personal safety.

The photos are marked copyrighted, so I’m only going to post the link.  Those who might take offense at foul language might not want to click, the vandals were obviously trying to be vile.  Pictures are here on flickr.

Palin Hanging by a Noose in Southern California

First we had Obama hanging by a noose.  Now someone thought it might be appropriate to hang Palin by a noose.  Either way it’s a symbol of outright hatred and total disrespect.  In my opinion, it is inappropriate either way.  When one cannot fight a political opponent with words and ideas, they resort to symbols such as this.  It only weakens your position and it makes you look foolish.

CNN wrote an article back in November of 2007, after the Jena, Louisiana noose incident.  They point out how such symbols are designed to incite hatred.  I don’t care if it is Halloween, it was wrong when it was done to Obama, and it is wrong in this situation as well.  What ever happened to decent political discourse?  Politics has devolved into insults and threats.  We really need to work on making America a better place, not ripping it apart.
