Rasmussen: McCain More Trusted on Economy and Taxes

A surprising Rasmussen poll shows McCain is now polling ahead of Obama on the economy and taxes.  A month ago, McCain was polling 3 points behind on taxes.  Currently, he is polling 2 points ahead.  Obama seems to have hurt himself some with his answer to Joe the Plumber of “spreading the wealth around”.  A month ago, McCain was 9 points behind on the economy.  Now, he is 1 point ahead.

While these are small margins, it is yet more evidence that McCain is gaining momentum entering the election.

Gaza Citizens Calling Asking Americans to Vote For Obama

Citizens in Gaza have begun cold calling Americans in attempts to get them to vote for Obama in the upcoming election.  USA Today reports that 24-year-old Ibrahim Abu Jayab is using Skype (an Internet-based phone service) to leave messages to potential American voters.  He doesn’t speak english, but he practiced his spiel: “I’m Ibrahim Abu Jayab from Gaza Strip. I support the Senator Obama from Gaza Strip, I think the Senator Obama achieve the peace in the world and in my area. For the peace, please elect Senator Obama. Thank you very much.”

It seems distinctly possible that many in Gaza view Obama as a less staunch ally of Israel.  And, Obama does have some odd endorsements (as does McCain).  Regardless, it does seem odd to see Hamas and Gaza citizens supporting Obama so strongly.

Mass State Senator Wilkerson Busted Taking Bribes

A Massachusetts state senator, Democrat Dianne Wilkerson, was arrested on charges of extortion as a public official and theft of honest services as a state senator.  According to an Associated Press article, she was caught on video accepting cash from some undercover agents and even stuffing some of the money into her bra.  It appears she took the cash in exchange for her assistance in helping a developer obtain a liquor license.

Wilkerson did not enter a plea, but faces a total of 40 years in prison and $500,000 in fines.  She had held the seat since 1993 but lost in a close primary race.  She was attempting to keep her position through a write-in and sticker campaign.  Allegedly, the illegal money was going to be used to help fund a primary recount that would cost $70,000.

Gallup Poll: Obama 49 – McCain 47

The latest Gallup likely voter poll shows McCain is only trailing Obama by 2 points (49-47).  Various polls continue to show the race tightening up as election day approaches.  Zogby is showing McCain behind by 4 points (49-45).  Rasmussen shows a 5 point deficit (51-46).  IBD shows a 4 point differential (48-44).  Battleground shows 3 points (49-46).

I still say the election is not in the bag for Obama.  The momentum still seems to be shifting back to McCain, if he can hold the momentum for the next week, the election is anyone’s game.

Biden Bans Philadelphia CBS 3 After Another Tough Interview

Philadelphia’s CBS 3 has joined WFTV on the Obama interview ban list.  The station interviewers gave Biden tough questions that he apparently did not like, resulting in the same punishment as was dolled out to an Orlando station for another tough interview.

Perhaps the Obama campaign should send out a list of acceptable questions before interviews happen.  Then again, Biden could just give straight answers and the questions would stop.
